The Best Hostel in Copenhagen: Next House Hostel

If you’re planning a trip to Copenhagen and looking for an awesome hostel to stay at without spending a fortune, allow us to introduce you to Next House – the best hostel in Copenhagen, no doubt! Located in the most central part of the city, it’s a must for all travellers!

During our recent trip to Copenhagen, we had the chance to stay at Next House, and we can confidently say it’s one of the best hostel experiences we’ve had so far! Whether you’re into socializing and meeting likeminded travellers or just want a cheap bed for the night while exploring Copenhagen, this hostel offers something for everyone.

So what makes Next House the best hostel in Copenhagen?

  • Location: 🌍 As for every traveller location is everything! Next House is perfectly located in the very centre of Copenhagen, so you’re close to just about everything that Copenhagen has to offer.
  • The “box” bed experience: 🛏️Is there something worse than coming back to your hostel after a long day of exploring and realizing your bed feels like a pile of bricks wrapped in disappointment? Fear not! Next House has the best hostel beds we’ve ever slept in at a hostel (a bold claim, but 100% true)!  While many associate hostels with the lack of privacy it’s not the case at Next House. The beds are inside a box which gives you a lot of privacy and dampens the sound of the Swedish guy snoring in the bed beneath yours! 😉
  • Social activities: 🍻Next house is booming with all kinds of social activities – to be fair Next House is the hostel with the most activities that we’ve ever been to! Just to mention a few:  Pubcrawls, karaoke nights, movie nights, communal dinners, yoga sessions – oh yea and did we mention they have a sports arena where you can play some ball with other travellers, not to mention they also have a fitness room where you can get your workout done!
  • Price: 💸Copenhagen isn’t exactly known for being budget-friendly, but for only €20 you will be able to get a bed in a dorm room – wow! Next House offers exceptional value for what you pay – no doubt!

The location and accessibility

Next House is located in the “inner city” district, which is known for its lively atmosphere and charm. From here, you’re within walking distance to some of the city’s most iconic attractions, such as the Tivoli Gardens (one of the world’s oldest amusement parks), the free town of Christina and the iconic Little Mermaid statue, by the waterfront.

Getting to Next House couldn’t be easier. It’s just a 5-minute walk from Copenhagen Central Station, making it super convenient no matter how you’re travelling. If you’re arriving by plane, the best option is to take the direct train from Copenhagen Airport to the central station, which takes only 12 minutes. The airport train station is easy to find, located just outside the terminal, and a ticket costs around €4. While the metro is also available, it involves a transfer, which may feel a bit tricky for first-time visitors. To keep things simple and stress-free, we recommend taking the train.

If you prefer taking a taxi, they’re available just outside the airport and you should except it to cost around €40-50.

The rooms

Hostel rooms can often feel both crowded and noisy, but that’s not the case at Next House. From the moment you step into your room, you can tell this hostel takes comfort and quality to a level that is rarely seen at any hostel. Next house only offers dorm rooms for 4-6 people in them, which we really like since it’s the perfect balance between socializing and having your personal space.

The smaller dorm setup at Next House means a much calmer environment, free from the constant coming and going of large groups. No more late-night disturbances as 15 people shuffle around, unpacking bags and turning on lights. (Instead, you get a more peaceful, relaxed atmosphere that lets you actually get some rest.) This setup feels way more relaxed, providing a sense of peace without sacrificing the social aspect hostels are known for. You still have the chance to meet people, but you won’t be overwhelmed by a crowd.

Each dorm has these incredible “box” beds that feel like your own little cabin, and trust us, this is a major gamechanger! Each bed is equipped with a light, two charging outlets and a handy wall mounted basket to keep your essentials without having to leave bed – basically, your own little cabin. The thoughtful design means you won’t disturb the snoring Swedish guy beneath you when you switch on your bed light or trying to the find the toothbrush you lost 30 seconds ago.

The dorms are super clean and modern. While they’re not particularly spacy, each room includes a private bathroom and shower, so there is no need to wander down the hall to search for a shared one. Shampoo and towels are provided free of charge.

Each bed has its own locker inside the room for storing personal items. Although the in-room lockers aren’t very large, the hostel provides bigger lockers in the hallway free of charge, giving you plenty of secure storage options. Your own padlock is needed for the in-room locker, but if forget to bring one it’s possible to buy one at the hostel lobby.

The standout feature here is the price. Keep in mind, this is in Copenhagen, a notoriously expensive city. A dorm bed at Next House costs just €20, making it a fantastic deal. However, it’s important to plan ahead and book early, as this popular spot fills up quickly, especially during the busy summer months.

The dorm come with options for everyone – whether you’re looking for mixed dorms or a dorm just for women, they got it.

Private rooms are also an option! If dorm life isn’t your style or you just prefer some more privacy, you can get a private room. The private options are perfect for couples, small groups, or just anyone who values their alone time. Plus, the rooms are soundproofed, offering you added comfort and discretion. 😉

The private rooms can accommodate 2 to 6 people, with prices ranging from €95 to €145 per night, depending on the room size.

Whether you’re staying in a dorm or a private room, one thing’s for sure – the beds here are amazing, the madrassas are both really thick and comfy. Honestly, these are the best hostel beds we’ve ever slept on, and we have slept on many hostels!

You can check in anytime from 15:00 and onwards, the reception is open 24/7. Check-out is at 11:00, but if you need a bit more time, late check-out is sometimes an option available until 13:00 for a fee of €12.50 if you are staying in a dorm and €25 if you are staying in a private room.

The social vibe and activities

What we liked the most about Next House during our stay was the huge variety of activities and things to do. We have already mentioned a few but let’s take a closer look at some of the best activities from our point of view:

  • Free walking tours: Next House offers daily free walking tours around Copenhagen. Not only is it a good way to discover the city, but also a good way to become part of a group and get to hang out with the other people from the hostel. The tours start at 10:45 every morning, and there’s no need to sign up – just show up and have fun!
  • Pubcrawl: Curious about the nightlife in Copenhagen? For a small fee of €15, you’ll visit 3-4 bars with a group of other people from the hostel and a guide. Included in the deal is discount coupons for beers/drinks at the bars. It’s a great way to experience the city after dark and connect with other travellers! We definitely recommend signing up for the pubcrawl – it’s worth the money!
  • Parties: If you’re into themed parties, Next House hosts themed parties every so often. From costume nights to rooftop gatherings, there’s always somethings exciting happening during your stay. The parties are free and worth to attend if you’re into partying.
  • Games: The hostel offers a variety of games, both indoors and outdoors. Whether its board games, fussball, pool or shotting hoops in the sports arena, these are perfect for casual fun and getting to know others.
  • Hostel dinners: A great budget friendly option! The hostel organizes group dinners every night, where you can enjoy a delicious meal while getting to know other travellers. Make sure to sign up before 18:30 since the dinner starts at 19:00. The price is €9 – making it really affordable!
  • Other Activities: Next House also hosts yoga sessions, live music nights, karaoke nights and so much more, so there’s something for everyone. Whether you’re looking to relax or socialize, you’ll find the perfect activity to suit your mood.

The big question is, are these activities actually fun? and the answer is yes – these activities are genuinely fun and definitely worth to attend!

So, who’s staying at Next House? You’ll meet a mix of solo travellers, backpackers, and groups of friends – most travellers here will be within the age of 18-30, but we’ve also seen older.  Whether you’re here to explore the city, connect with other travellers, or just relax, this hostel is a great choice. Don’t be afraid to connect with other travellers, since travellers here tend to be like-minded and open!

Final thoughts:

We enjoyed our stay here at Next House so much that we confidently can say it’s the best hostel in Copenhagen! We’ve been to almost every hostel in Copenhagen, but Next House just stands out on all parameters. From the best hostel beds to the wide range of social activities, it offers everything a travelers could want.

Yet the best thing about Next House is the price, like come-on €20 a night in Copenhagen – we can’t believe they don’t charge any more, since the experience here is worth much more than that! Just remember to book your stay early, since it’s really popular – no wonder why.

One thing to keep in mind: the maximum stay is 14 days, so plan accordingly. Whether you’re here for a quick stop or a longer stay, this is the place you would want to stay at! We can’t recommend it enough.
